Posted: 29 Nov 2004 Topic: MSc dissertation - Help!!

Hi there,

I'm studying for an MSc in resource management at edinburgh uni and am currently considering various dissertation options. I am very keen on doing some reptile work having carried out a great deal of reptile surveying and relocation projects earlier this year. If anyone knows of any work that needs doing or just any ideas then let me know.

Many thanks

Posted: 02 Feb 2005 Topic: Adder project

Hi there,

I'm going to be carrying out my MSc dissertation on the adder population of a raised bog - Flanders Moss in Stirlingshire - to see whether the habitat requirements of the species can be incorporated into management plans for such sites. Other than looking at vegetation structure, water level and tree and scrub cover, i was wondering whether there is anything else i should be looking for.

Any general advice would be much appreciated also. Cheers

Cheers Tony,

Do you have any tips for getting the most out of this project as far as the surveying goes? I was thinking the best surveying time may be a bit later than normal as i am further north. What do you think?

I have a copy of your report in British Wildlife which is proving very useful and any further help would be great

Many thanks

Posted: 14 Mar 2006 Topic: Reptile training courses...

Evening all,

Aside from the courses offered by IEEM and the Bristol Uni one, does anyone know of any reptile surveying/assessment/management course taking place further north (i'm working in Edinburgh)? I work for a consultancy and would like to increase my knowledge on the subject. I've done a fair bit of work on reptiles, especially adders (my MSc thesis was on a big population) but i'm keen to improve my skills.

Any ideas would be greatly received.

Cheers y'all!

Posted: 28 Mar 2006 Topic: Scottish sightings?

Hi there,

Went out my the site where i carried out my MSc thesis last year (looking at the microhabitat preferences of adders on raised bogs...) but no signs as of yet. Anyone else know of any Scottish sightings this year? We've just come through a pretty harsh snap so hopefully they'll be out soon...
