hi all,

had a great day today up on Herpetowonder Heath SMSI.
(Site of Miraculous Scientific Interest)

first, i saw this common lizard;

a second. is this a female? ID please;

then this breeding cond male sand lizard;

then i was fortunate to chance upon this grass snake with its prey - a minnow;

in the nearby pond were a pair of courting palmate newts. note male fanning tail;

unfortunately (in some herpers eyes) there were also some wall and green lizards;

i even saw a couple of escaped pets including this gecko with a prehensile tail;

this one was a REAL surprise. i put its prescence down to global warming;

QUIZ;

the 3rd, 6th, 7th and final pics are of models of real species.
theres no prize but can you ID them?

from the clues and pix. WITHOUT cheating.
we'd all be most impressed!

clues;

3rd BS lizard

6th LTG

7th think stripes!

Last; PM. desert dweller

hi suz ,

theyre all presents- people give me things like that. i dont ask for them. i suppose they think they suit my mentality somehow!
the only one i really like is the 1st 1. my dad is VERY tight and i had to pester him for years before he let me have it. even though hes not the slightest bit interested in lizards and i always have been.
i craved it as a boy.
you can hang it up by its tail.

hey Ben you should do what I do with all the plastic snakes
and lizards people give me... next time you see some tins
out (particularly if it's a consultancy survey), pop them
under.

OK the joke wears thin after a while, but the faces when
people first lift the tins are worth the effort

(I wonder how many people on this forum working in
consultancy now know I've been on one of their sites in the
past   )
