Hi;
Plenty of Balkan Green Lizards but did not find Erhards wall lizard which was odd as they are found in this area.

Dear Rupe,

As you may or may not know, on the Cretan mainland, erhardii is limited to the western parts of the island.

Are you sure about your tortoise being a marginated one? Tortoise records from Crete are confusing, though officially only Testudo graeca seems to be accepted to live there more or less naturally. Do you have a shot of the animal's belly?

g's,

Jeroen.

Hi Jeroen

I agree Marginated Tortoises have not been seen on Crete for many years and are presumed extinct.
However this one was found in the wild . As it was possibly less than a year old it may been born on
the island and not someones escaped pet. I believe Marginated are the only mediteranian tortoises
with the triangle shaped markings on the plastron.

That's why I was asking for a view of the belly. Interesting stuff, Rupe!

On a recent trip to Crete I met a lady that was breeding Marginatus and had 30 or so recently hatched young.She was wondering if there was anyone else on the Island that was breeding as well so as to exchange with them.
