Posted: 15 Mar 2011 Topic: Toads and Frogs Injured...

Has anyone heard of toads and frogs being ripped in half during breeding season?

I recently visited a site on the Scottish coast and observed Common Frog and Toad corpses collected in groups around a fresh water pond. The corpses had had their back legs ripped off. something has eaten this half of the animal, as there were no signs of the legs anywhere on site, and left the upper part.

I have been told that this could've been mink, as they can't eat the back of a Toad due to poison being situated there. However it seems strange that this would also take place with the frogs.

Anyone have any ideas?

Katy :)
