Topic: Valentineos Day lizard
Hi everyone I'm new here. Only just discovered this forum. Thought I would mention that I saw a common lizard yesterday afternoon on Woodbury Common (Devon). Not sure of the sex, he/she was basking in the sun on some bracken. I don't know if this particularly early in the year for a lizard to be out. It was reasonably warm, 11 degrees according to my car's thermometer. I only saw the one and no sign of any adders either. |

I found these two today on Woodbury Common and was struck by the contrasting colouration. Yes the one on the right really was that green! Can anyone tell the sexes from this pic?

Hi Suzi. Yes, when I saw it I was struck by the intensity of the colour, and I don't think the photo quite captures that. I've only ever seen one other like it and that was several years ago and within 100yds or so of this one. Maybe this one is a descendant? I also saw a totally black adult once in the same vicinity.

I've had a similar experience, walked for miles on local common and saw nothing . I then noticed seven individuals all within 200 yds of the car pack, an area I'd not looked at closely because I'd presumed that all the walkers and dogs would drive them away . Still, its all good exercise. |
