| hello to everyone, after almost a year of travel and no internet my partner and i are back online, we used to sign in as lucym but now use my name! really excited about the herp spotting ahead this year, cant wait to get amongst it . |

hi,
we stayed with friends in Queensland Australia, for a couple of weeks before traveling south down the east coast then moved inland for most of our time , we stayed in various accommodation for our 7mths in oz, in that time we spotted our fair amount of herps, although no experts on herps overseas we saw Amethystine and inland carpet pythons, common brown snake and various small whippish snakes, bearded dragons that were much grumpier than i expected lots of small fast lizard ( not sure what make) and a rainbow skink. we also spent a short time in India where venomous snakes are a part of day to day life. visited a snake park out of curiosity in Parassinkkadavu and saw king and spec cobras, a beautiful Russel's viper and much more. left a bitter taste though as they were all captive and life without bars is always better. |

| Oh PS, bit of a random question to punt out but somebody might have a clue on this, whilst away i came across various sloughs and toyed with the idea of bringing them back, i stopped short in-case this was against any custom laws i have not heard of, any ideas? |

| I loved it, been looking forward to this series for a while now and i was not disappointed. I, as have many grown up glued to Sir Davids programs, its he who kick started my enthusiasm and inspired me to get out amongst nature. I always sit at far more ease with his work than watching the crazy south African guy, seriously Ive seen folk chase wind blown fivers down the street with more grace! I was blown away by the pygmy chameleon and the wax monkey frog was really fun to watch. Roll on next week. |

| Hi, can anyone shed any light on why adders have vertical pupils ( cat like) and grass and smoothies have more "human-like" pupils, just wondered if any advantages were had by either form. Also wen out herp spotting i find myself choosing cammo or drab greens or browns. This does help to break up the out line but are snakes and lizards colourblind? |

Hmmm thanks for the replies the idea of grass snakes hunting at night would surely help as frogs are in my local pond anyway more active at night thus creating more vibrations ect for natrix to home in on, having said that a more inactive semi hidden frog during the day could be the easy-er target  thanks . pete. |
