Posted: 04 Aug 2003 Topic: Surrey Amphibian and Reptile Group

Would you like to join SurreyÆs only organisation devoted solely to the study, care and preservation of the CountyÆs reptiles and amphibians?

SARG was established over ten years ago by people with an interest in SurreyÆs reptiles and amphibians. Surrey is very fortunate in being home to all the native species of reptiles and amphibians, including the very rare Smooth Snake and Great Crested Newt, and we want to see these creatures thrive in the County. We are a mixture of hobbyists, scientists, and conservationists; amateurs and professionals, committed to sharing knowledge and understanding of these much-misunderstood and endangered animals. We are affiliated to Surrey Wildlife Trust, and we work voluntarily to prevent habitat destruction and resist damaging planning applications. We give advice to residents and organisations, work with schools and educational bodies, and help with numerous ætoad-crossingÆ sites throughout Surrey

A full yearÆs membership is only ú6.00. You will receive our mailings of information and news of events in Surrey and further afield, and your money will help us in buying equipment, in spreading understanding, and in working to conserve the reptiles and amphibians of Surrey.

Please, simply print off and fill in the membership application form, and return it with your payment - cheques payable to æSARGÆ or ú6.00 in cash. And of course any extra donations are most welcome, and will be put to work immediately to save SurreyÆs wildlife!

Wow what a picture; you really get a feel for the size of this beauty. I had a report in 2002 of a 6' plus nn run over on Ranmore Common in Surrey, with exact location. By the time I got there (VERY fast) there was just a lot of marks on the roadside grass where something had been - either recovered and gone, or taken by scavengers, I'll never know. The guy who made the report was entirely credible and adamant about the length being 6' plus - he was a plumber, and said he knew how to estimate length of long pipes accurately. At the time I was wholly unconvinced. But now, I wonder ...                           Rick Anstis, Surrey ARG
