I read there are Natterjacks at cannock chase.are they still there?

As far as I'm aware they are. Certainly there since 2000. Not sure about more recently but they're still mentioned frequently.

I am currently doing adder survey on a part of cannock chase, So I will look into what the current situation is on the natterjacks......due a meeting this weekend, will ask then.

Reports seem to vary afair bit but there seems to be a problem with some of the pools drying out and water level not returning so not sure on that one.

As far as I know there was a release of natterjacks in the mid 70's and another 20 years after but waiting for answer on current situation.

Target on the action plan  "Increase the existing natterjack toad population to a sustainable level by appropriate ongoing management and site safeguard by 2005"

Will have to check how they are doing

I was passing through the area yesterday, so I popped in to the original introduction site for a quick look.

I didn't see any toads, nor any spawn or toad tadpoles. There were a few common frog tadpoles, lots of terrestrial smooth newts (which came as a bit of a surprise, I thought they'd still be in the water), and a single terrestrial great crested newt.

Two of the ponds were very overgrown with Crassula, one was completely dry.
