Posted: 16 Jun 2003 well done gemma '_ where there's a will . . . ' and what a great way to gather data as and when the oppurtunity arrises (with newts get their bellie); in his 'frogs & toads' (whittet books, 1985), trevor beebee offers a a word of thanks to his wife, maggie, for putting up with tadpoles in the bath; in my opinion, any herpetologist of worth into british species (regardless of status), should have at least one 'bath experience' during the course of their career john |

Posted: 16 Jun 2003 I think it was my first wife; but she drew the line at a couple of 2ft salt-water crocs, don't no why, there were really cute.

Posted: 30 Jan 2005 Not quite sure what is meant by your "sample images". Are they on the site? I would like to see them. I am, at present, doing some research on brown frog morphology which includes a discussion of colour and variety of marking -- so I might find them useful. I am very interested, at present, on gaining information on the provenance of the common frog depicted on the RAUK site's "Species Identification" page. Can you or the membership help on this?

Posted: 30 Jan 2005 I believe the common frogs credited to Alan on the ID page were from his garden, hopefully he'll confirm this. The image of my sample has moved URL's, so I'll re-post it below.. I doubt if I still have the hi-res version, but please feel free to use this version.

Posted: 22 Jun 2010 hi gemma. great post. its sad that alans frogs are deemed isolated but this might not (and certainly NEED not) always be the case surely? they look a variable bunch for now at least. compared to many, frogs are highly mobile animals and turn up in surprising places as you know. eg my "common but.." post. his garden must have "great" "frogproofing" Diversity. |
