I saw my first slow worm of the year today at Burnham Beeches.  It was under tin and only about 3 feet away from an Adder which I was too slow to photograph.  Spring has Sprung

I saw my first one of the year too, and my first ever! at Allerthorpe Common in North Yorkshire (1st March)

Saw my first two slowies in my garden under plastic sheeting in their dedicated compost heap. This is the first chance I've had to look this week (work spoils things!) but the weather hadn't really been so good this week as it was today so maybe their first outing anyway. They were two mid-sized slow worms and one was starting to shed its skin.

11 slow worms today in the same place as yesterday. Several look to be in the shedding process. No last year's young amongst them I noted.

Do they shed as soon as they come out of hibernation or is it dependent on them eating a bit first to beef them up?

Boris, judging by the ant size in one of your pix I'm guessing the slow worms in that one are last year's babes.

Yesterday I found over 20 in my compost heap under the black plastic. One tangle had 14 or so and the other 6 at least. I need to download the pix and count them!

I'd love to see the pictures.

I must have seen about 20ish today even though there was frost on the ground.

Boris,

I will ask my son for the pix and put them on here. He took the pix and moving footage! It was very interesting watching it. What a sad pair we are!
