Posted: 22 Mar 2007 Hello James, Can I ask if your gecko has anywhere to dig? Eublepharid geckos are notorious diggers...I don't think it's a good idea to keep this species on plastic grass to be honest, it's suppressing his/her natural behaviour. |

Posted: 22 Mar 2007
ive been told before carpet is fine, they dont need to dig.
Who told you that?!?.. Absolute b******s!. You put your gecko in an enclosure with decent ground medium and you tell me the first thing it does!. Don't believe all the crap you read on certain petkeepers forums Phillip...alot of it is people with 6 months experience giving out very poor information, and that's the sad truth. |

Posted: 23 Mar 2007 Hi Phillip, Nice gecko. Alex is absolutely right, you must give your pet some sort of substrate to dig in. If we decide to keep an animal as captive it is our duty to provide for all it's needs and make that animal feel as at home as pos'. Thanks for showing us your pet. Al O-> O+> |

Posted: 23 Mar 2007 Good stuff Phillip, It'll make your gecko far happier and plus you'll have the benefit of being able to study your EM's natural behaviour. I bet you didn't know that in the wilds of Pakistan they enjoy eating scorpions?!...Greedy aren't they? |

Posted: 02 Apr 2007 Of course unless you have studied them in the wild you won't know what is natural behaviour whilst they are in captivity. Deano Better to be lucky than good looking. |

http://www.usfca.edu/fac-staff/dever/LeopardGecko.PDF Edit. Sorry Deano, of course Phillip won't be able to study Eublepharis exactly as they live in the wild but at least offer it a bare minimum requirement...the natural urge to dig and burrow. |

Posted: 02 Apr 2007 Jon, It's not a music forum either but we happily discussed that in this section the other day. This messageboard will never become a pet forum, but some constructive advice is surely a helpful thing as the matter has arisen - especially as we are talking about a reptiles happiness here. |

The difference please.......???? The above policy also states 'if you feel RAUK is the best place to recieve specific advice, please post in the off topic forum'. Enough said. Phillip was not asking for advice, he just merely posted a one off thread with pictures of his Em. All that was stated was that it'd be a good idea to offer the lizard somewhere where it could burrow and dig. |

Posted: 02 Apr 2007 There is no problem at all with this thread in the off topic forum. We have a pet terrapin shock horror that was rescued, blooming thing will probably out live me. Jon can you not see that Phil is a very active member of this forum (and a welcome one) and is receiving valuable advice regarding the keeping of his pet? How are the captive bred corals btw, I would assume a Leopard Gecko is CB therefore it is no different to talking about corals, dogs, cats etc which many of us have been known to do. I would point out as owner and administrator of RAUK I was pefectly aware of this thread, if you had a problem with it you could have contacted me privately and I would have explained that I believed it was perfectly acceptable.
