Hello herpetologists,

Recently I aquired a copy of Leightons British serpents (1901). The (one?) former owner was "J. Whitaker Bean" as inscribed. So far so good.

The thing surprising me was, that someone (obviously this "J. Whitaker Bean") had stuck some excellent, probably self-made photos of Vipera berus and of its poison fangs on the white pages and made some handwritten notices. I?ve got a notion, that the photos have been made prior to 1925 due to the paper quality.
Furthermore a small rewiew about this book is stuck into it.

It?s unsatisfying to me as a herpelogical bibliomaniac that I have never heard about this person, so - have you ever heard about this man?

Thanks a lot

Michael

P.S. Sorry for my bad english, but it?s not my native tongue
