was walking the dog the other week and on the way back to the car noticed this little critter
I think its a painted turtle(terrapin)?

It looks like the Yellow-Bellied Slider Trachemys scripta scripta by the large Yellow mark behind the eye and around the edge of the shell. Almost totally vegetarian.

The ones that have been dumped often do really well!  There was a recent post on a UK reptile-keepers forum where a guy had been called in to re-home a bunch of red-eared sliders from a drained London park pond, and they were beauties.
