Posted: 29 Mar 2010 Found my first three grassies of the season yesterday, one of which was particularly interesting. It hooded up like a cobra when it noticed me and lifted the front of its body up of the ground while slithering along. Robbie |

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 Awesome pics! Dont think I've ever seen a grassie do that before, so not only do they play dead, they also try to impersonate cobras, quite the actors! although annoyingly they tend to rely on there oderous explusions as a first means of deterant before deploying there acting skills! I have yet to see my first grass snake of the year, hopefully it wont be long! The grass snake in your pics looks like his right nostril has an injury, hope its ok, well it seems fine in the pics! |

Posted: 05 Apr 2010 Rob, great pics. Will you do me a favour? Take a look through your close up records of grass snakes and see if you have any others that have this type of nasal infection? I warned the BHS about this the year before last but they seemed reluctant to publish the article. John Baker - if you're reading this, please take a look and reconsider what I have told you.
