sadly, the red frog waving from the heart of this mating ball is dead.
but if your number's up, then dying while having sex seems a pretty pleasant exit though eh?
well its better than suffering a lonely suffocation during the freeze - like so many others of its kind!

Moving on.....

YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

garden frogspawn at last!
take a bow RT.

there were dozens of frogs about - however, most sussed me on approach and ducked away before i could attempt a decent en masse pic.

these are from my smaller pond. it is raised-up above ground level on one side and arcs around to rest against high fern-cloaked banking.
a very convenient set-up for taking snaps at near eye-level!

i had to slither up prostrate and strike quickly with my zoom lens to get these!
youve heard of the human FLY, well meet Ben - the human ADDER!

in a GLOS garden today;

Note red individual at top of pic here.
i get 1 or 2 of those most years.

whoops! pic of me performing in Bristol couple of weeks ago.*
how did THAT get there???
guess i am rather scaly and reptilian-looking in my old age.
so not entirely off topic eh?

regards all!

ben

* im the one with the big mouth, stalking the audience.
you'd guessed that already huh?

A friend's father-in-law died like that but not with his wife but another woman!  His grown up children didn't find it very pleasant nor did his wife although it can be joked about now, years later.

Yay, the old ones are the best!

Nice photos Ben.  I've seen diddly so far this year, but then I've been pretty busy, so haven't really been out much.

Off topic alert - What's your band's name Ben?  Also, I don't recognise the venue.  Next time you play Bristol I'll try and come along.

Regards,

Tim.

I wanted presents from lots of you. Snot fair that Ben Rigsby was the only one to send me Xmas & birthday presents.

thanks sue.
glad you enjoyed them.

when you look at the RAUK stats, snakes are by far and away the most popular herps among members. im not surprised - it was ever thus among herpy folk i suppose.

HENCE;

adder= 369 RAUK topic posts, grass snake 205.
by comparison, natterjack toad (despite its rarity - you might expect far higher!)= only 22!
and as for palmate newt, well lets just forget they exist shall we?
a paltry 16 postings!

the post tally for our beloved common frog (135) would be much lower too if us 2 Anurogeeks didnt keep incessantly putting up afresh!

cos WE know best dont we?

common frogs are MUCH more than any serpent eh?

who cares if theyre (presently) as common as muck and not rare "Royalty" like sand lizards or smooth snakes?
i can relate to that - theyre just like me!
